These changes can also alter short and long term interest rates, foreign exchange rates, the supply of money, credit, and various other parts of the economy, including unemployment and prices for goods and services. The committee has 12 members and meets 8 times per year. Markets can react with significant volatility on FOMC days. Many prudent traders stand aside for most of the day and just watch price action.
