One of the best ways to learn about something is to watch it. If you’ve never seen futures trading in action, or if you’re just curious about what it looks like, click on the link below, and you can watch a sample trade on the S&P 500 E-mini. It’s actually two older trades, but they will work as an example. Give them a second to load.
The moderator is a very experienced trader, using price action for the entry set-up. Obviously, student traders don’t start with 10 contracts, the same as student pilots don’t start on Boeing 747′s.
The individual executing this trade has more than 10 years experience, and when we last talked, was working on his own as a private trader.
The trading platform or “dome” is Ninja Trader. You will see the stop loss and profit target settings and also how quickly orders are filled.
Trading is a little bit different for everyone due to the psychology involved. Some handle the emotion better than others, so the learning curve varies by individual. Watching a sample trade is an easy way to gain some exposure, and broaden your experience. In these examples, notice the patience of the trader, how he lets the trade breath, and doesn’t try to rush the market, or let it rush him. It is what it is.
Keys are to take your trading plan seriously and trade what you are comfortable with, keeping your emotions out of the trade at all times. Much easier said than done, but absolutely necessary none the less.
